Nagenahiru Center for Environmental Education

Nagenahiru Center for Environmental Education, advances Environmental Awareness, knowledge & Appreciation through hands-on experience in a Natural outdoor classroom. Surrounded by thousands and thousands acres of constructed wetlands with high bio diversity, provided Educational opportunities about this unique habitat. The wetland features elevated boardwalks through Mangroves, featuring interpretive signs about the habitat.

Paddling through mangrove tunnel

Wonderful way to explore the real nature in an unspoiled Lake for you is to take a trip on the Traditional Catamaran through Mangrove Tunnels, Swamps and grasslands. A paddle amongst your tour begins with a brief paddling lesson and safety equipment orientation. This very special paddling trip that you will never forget, Offers something different and special.

This is a very easy paddle because we are going up river with the tide and then turning around to paddle back down with the tide. You will also enjoy a packet of pea nut and snacks while you are resting under the canopy of mangroves . After one and half hours we return down the lake for the last leg of our adventure. We supply water bottles, snacks, life jacket, Binoculars etc and a knowledgeable guide as to enhance your memorable experience.

Amazing Wild Life

Visitors can explore the mangroves looking for all types of wildlife available at this newly declared Wild life sanctuary Madampa Lake. (Monkeys, Bat Hooting sites, civet & Monjooses, River otter, iguanas, lizards, Crabs, Crocodiles, Snakes, many types of Birds, Butterflies & much more). The mangroves are a very amazing area to explore with their incredible root systems that grow above the water and spread out.

Excursion at the Lake

While joining this boat ride you will be able to enjoy several interesting locations at Madampa Lake including famous Buddhist Monastery at the small island of Delduwa located in the Lake. Our experience, naturalist brief you about the different fauna species found across your boat journey, Guest can exploring the mangroves looking for all types of wildlife available at this newly declared Wild life sanctuary Madampa Lake. The Lake Heritage offer you an excellent opportunity to experience the tranquility of pure nature during your holidays in Sri Lanka by enjoying Camping under the rich Mangrove forest at the Nagenahiru Center for Environment located in the Madampa Lake Wild Life Sanctuary, a wonderful way to be closer to nature and truly enjoy what the Sri Lanka has to offer. Sleep under the shade of Mangroves offers you a unique and exciting camping experience.

While you are participating this Camping programme under the canopy of Mangroves provide you an excellent opportunity to take part in many ecofriendly activities, such as canoeing, bird watching, jungle trekking, fishing and relaxing. It is also perfect for conservation and ecological research and education. In the evening you can enjoy a hearty barbecue meal in a magical setting – the whole area is lit up with traditional flame torches and a roaring campfire. Bird Watching

Bird watching at Lake Heritage is a harmonious activity and one that can be enjoyed by everyone. An escapade that encompasses nature, culture, travel, learning, intuition and a hobby that can last a lifetime. Birds have always delighted people, because of their beauty, sounds and their power of flight. Bird watching or birding is the observation of birds as a recreational activity. The Lake Heritage will provide you binoculars to watch the birds you are coming across during your birding tours.

Basically you can enjoy birding while on boat ride or Canoeing. Binoculars provide for visitor free of charge as value added option on boat ride/canoe cost. You can also use the bird watching towers to easy sight the birds among the rich mangrove forest.

This facilities can used my excursionist by paying reasonable low rate to host family. Refreshments are available with host family to buy. that’s create other source of income for poor family.

Canoeing in the Lake

Paddling a canoe can be the most practical way to discover rich biodiversity and nature at the Lake Heritage. Your canoeing trip will be start at the Nagenahiru center for Environment is a rewarding journey to the coastal town of Ambalangoda. It can be done as a day trip and is good for people who have never canoed before but are looking to experience wilderness and adventure.
