This fantastic lake situated close to the city of Ambalangoda one hour drive from the Colombo capital is a rich biodiversity hot spot surrounded by pristine mangrove forest. It is a safe haven for many forms of plants, aquatic animals, fish, shrimp, invertebrates and small animals. Your inland fishing day tour here will start at the Nagenahiru Center for Environment where you will get on a traditional catamaran with safety measures on a small river retreat which fishing canoes a healthy stock of Barramundi and other freshwater species.

This lake with a water surface of more than 1420 hectares is set amongst landscaped gardens with an awesome background Surrounded by Mangrove forest. This twin lake is now being correctly considered as the best big fish venue in south west coast of Sri Lanka. Years of experience and presence of thousands of thousand foreign holiday makers annually were attracted by its fantastic boat safaris is a haven for visitors.

The lake including deep channels, plateaus, shallow areas and also non–fishing areas has made the perfect habitat for the many different native species, and indigenous fish that are now thriving in the lake.

Fish to be caught here include the Barramundi, Mangrove Jack; Bull eyed Mackerel and on occasion when the salinity levels increase smaller trivially and Barracudas too.

We provide experience traditional fishermen to guide you during your fishing tour, Binoculars, safety jackets, snack and fruit juice while you are in the lake for fishing. All fishing equipment and bait, including 2 x rods and reels with alarms.

Please bring with you swimming shorts, a hat, sun protection, and a towel. There is a list of rules that you must read, understand and sign prior to your days fishing. This is for your own personal safety, and also the safety of the fish. These are few poisonous fish that can inflict serious injury if touch them, so it is imperative that you follow the rules and listen to the advice of the fishing guide who will be present at all times.

So far these rules have proved a success and nobody has been injured whist being fishing.

We recommend minimum of three hours trip to fully appreciate the fishing this fantastic lake has to offer. This is not usually a high catch venue; here in this twin lake it is more about quality rather than quantity. However, having said that, you have a very high chance of catching a really special fish.
